Arches of fun!

As a balloon decorator, Balloon arches are such a huge big part of our business. If you are looking for an element to take your next celebration to the next level, whether you’re hosting a birthday party, welcoming a new baby or celebrating a hen party, a balloon arch is just what your party needs and I can create just about anything for you!

Balloon arches are such a wonderful way to set the scene, bringing attention and colour to any event. When used outdoors, they work fabulously well for sporting events, the opening of new shops or businesses, and to indicate where an event is happening to bring in the crowds! Indoors, they are often used for entrance decor, welcoming and greeting guests as they arrive at their event. For theme events and parties, they can create a big statement and are often used as backdrops for photo opportunities.

The great thing about balloon arches is that I can make them in so many different ways to suit your event. Below is a list of ways you can use balloon arches and the impact they make!

Weddings

use a balloon arch for the entrance of your reception area, to go over your dancefloor or over your cake stand. We will match the balloons to your theme and your wedding day colours.

Birthday Parties

use for the entrance to your hall, venue or your home!

Baby Showers

colour coordinate your balloons to the gender or have lovely neutral colours. These look great on a wall over your food, cake or present table!

Fayres and Fetes

Draw the crowds in with our eye-catching displays! Our balloon arches are suitable for outdoor weather and look fantastic against a blue-sky back drop.

Openings

Again, attract the crowds with a balloon arch at your grand opening to create that wow factor! Great for press photos.

Photo Backdrops

put a balloon arch anywhere and there you have a great photo opportunity! Create a perfect photo booth backdrop with an arch.

Festivals

Adding a pop of colour to any outdoor festival entrance or over the stage for performances.

You can use Balloon Arches in so many different ways and they add so much fun and excitement to an event. For competitive quotes for your event, contact me today!

Have a smashing time

Gone are the days of just balloons and a Victoria sponge. If your baby is having a 1st birthday, there’s only one way to celebrate: with a cake smash!!

Turning one is an important milestone, a very proud moment for parents and family.

A photo session to mark this occasion is a really valuable investment, after all, your child will never turn one again! Cake smashes are messy, fun and a perfect way to capture that cheeky and innocent personality.

Here are 4 top tips to think about when planning your childs cake smash.

  1. DECIDE YOUR THEME – have a look on the internet, Pinterest is great. Save some examples of what you really like and have a think about how you can make it happen. Do you have an outfit to go with this particular theme? Or do you need to pick up something new? Do you want bunting to go with it? Flowers? Balloons?

2. CHOOSING YOUR CAKE – your cake doesn’t have to cost a fortune! It’s a great idea to approach a professional cake maker, ask your photographer who they recommend. Remember the brighter the colours of the cake the better!

3. PROPS – Spatula’s, bath tubs, different outfits, favorite teddy bears and cake stands, all of these things can add to a cake smash shoot and make it look super amazing!

4. TIME – Choose a time in the day when you child is happiest. Ideally not straight after a nap or right before. We also want your child to be interested and hungry for CAKE! Timing is very important so think about when is most suitable.

Tepee Parties

Who doesn’t love a sleepover! Tepee Parties are growing increasingly popular and I have provided some lovely balloons for these events (see pics). The best thing about hosting your very own sleepover party for your little ones and their mates is that you can pull off pretty much the best sleepover set up ever without spending too much. Forget hiring a venue. Stay at home and host the ultimate sleepover!!

Creating your own tepee party is easily done. Below I have listed my top 5 ideas for hosting the perfect tepee party.

1.FOOD!

Pizza, Hot dogs or burgers are an easy option.  For breakfast whip up some pancakes with a topping station with chocolate chips, fruit, and whip cream for something fun.  For snacks, a sundae station may be fun.  If you plan to watch movies do popcorn.  Kids also love baked cookies and sweets! Ask us about our sweetie cart and sweetie cones!

2.Balloons!

Confetti balloons, different coloured balloon garlands, personalised balloons, you name it, I’ve got it. Balloons help create the perfect fun atmosphere for Tepee parties.

3. Games Galore!

You can play typical party games (like pass the parcel) but you can also find games that suit your specific theme. And nail polish spin the bottle is always a big hit for the girls!

4. Decorate!

It’s easy to make it cosy and comfortable for your excited party guests. You can create a great atmosphere just using lights, black out the windows with newspaper or towels and string up some fairy lights.

Arrange individual sleeping spaces in a big circle on the floor so that when it’s time to bunker down for the night, everyone feels included. The more bean bags, cushions and blankets, the better!

5. Matching PJS!!

For a real treat why not buy the kids matching pyjamas. They’ll love twinning together and it will be a lovely treat that they’ll remember forever!

Until next time,

Helen

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s day, or St Valentine’s Day is celebrated every year on 14th February.

It’s a day when people show their affection for one another.

Where did it all start, and why do we celebrate it? Well here’s a little bit of history of Valentine’s Day for you all:

St. Valentine was actually four different people, all of whom were canonized by the Catholic Church due to their various good works. One of the first of the St. Valentines was executed as a martyr for helping Christians wed. At the time of his good deeds, marriage was sometimes controlled by the state, so it was considered a crime for some to wed. He helped people get married at the risk of his own life, as well as performing other good deeds. The other three Valentine’s also suffered a similar fate, due to their insistence of helping people who wanted to be married or wanted to live their lives in their own way that was not endorsed by the Roman government.

Knowing the sacrifice these men made to help others be married shows their compassion for human beings and the lengths they were willing to go to, in the name of love.

At Creative Decorations, we have plenty of ideas for the big day. Below are 3 ways you can surprise your loved one on the 14th!

  • Send a beautiful helium-filled bubble balloon. Personalise your bubble with your own words of ‘love’ and personalised messages. Don’t forget to select your Bubble filling & ribbon/garland. We have a range of feathers, confetti & mini heart balloons to choose from.
  • Send a helium-filled large Ring Balloon – Maybe you are going to ‘Pop’ the question this Valentine’s Day?
  • Decorate your space! Make your workplace or bedroom look amazing with some beautiful balloon decorations, LOVE letters and confetti balloons.

Supporting Great Ormond Street

Creative Decorations Supports Great Ormond Street Hospital

With thanks to BAPIA, for the 4th year running, we volunteered our time and expertise to help Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital with balloons and decorations at their special Christmas parties for children being cared for by the Hospital. The four parties were spread over two days with around 500 guests, giving children and their families time away from the hospital wards to enjoy having fun together.

The parties were the first in the series of ‘12 Days of GOSH Xmas’, where from the 14th to 25th of December Great Ormond Street Hospital featured some of the best festive moments taking place at the hospital throughout the Christmas period.

The children enjoyed fun activities such as face painting, arts & crafts, biscuit making and posing for pictures in a giant snow globe. There was an enchanting performance from the cast of Wicked, and a wonderful appearance from a choir put together by The Old Vic to get everyone into the festive spirit. Christmas would not be Christmas without Santa and he did not disappoint, surprising the children and spreading Christmas joy to all the families involved.

The families were also joined by an array of celebrity friends including Emma Bunton, Stephen Mulhern, Nick Grimshaw and Dan Beasley-Harling from this year’s Great British Bake off. We, along with 20 other balloon professionals, spent the day with GOSH creating arches and a spectacle of other balloons including festive chains, baubles, presents, a helicopter and an aeroplane. The show stopper was the beautifully designed stage area filled with letter balloons spelling out ‘Happy Christmas’ for all of the children to enjoy.

The balloons were all latex-free due to allergy concerns for some of the children at the hospital, and the décor was made to last as it was being used for four separate parties over two days.

Christmas is coming

Christmas is Coming!!

With Halloween well and truly out of the way, it’s time to start talking about all things…. CHRISTMAS!!
Christmas is coming and along with it comes the festive party season. Here at Creative Decorations we can offer you an exciting range of party balloons and accessories perfect for all of those upcoming events that you may have planned. But before we go into that, we’ve put together a few ideas for hosting the perfect Christmas party! Here’s our 8 must-haves for a great Christmas party!

1.Create a Christmas Playlist on Spotify.

Nothing sets the mood better than some good ol’ Christmas jams. Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, All I Want for Christmas and The Pogues are absolute winners to get your guests singing and dancing!

2. Ugly Jumper Theme

We all know someone that turns up on Christmas day with the worst Christmas jumper you’ve ever seen. Make it a theme! You could reward the person with the worst jumper with some festive treats!

3. FOOD!

Have lots of food. Food, of course, is the most essential aspect of your party. Everyone will be looking forward to your festive snacks and not having to cook dinner when they get home because they’ve filled up on all of your “goodies.” Cookie trees, marshmallow Santa’s, Christmas crunch popcorn, the list goes on and on. Get creative!

4. And Don’t Forget the Festive Drinks.

Have a pot filled with hot chocolate, some eggnog in the fridge and some hot apple cider in the slow cooker. It will fill the room with the scents of Christmas and add to the occasion.

5. Set up a Christmas Photo Booth.

It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. As Pinterest has taught us, throw a red sheet on the wall, grab some Christmas themed prop, like Santa hats and reindeer antlers, and you’re ready to go. Now you have proof of all the fun you’ve had… after all, if you don’t post a photo on Instagram of the party you had, did you even have it?

6. Party Games

Everyone loves party games and it’s a great way to have a laugh and relax. Some good ones include a gingerbread decorating comp, white elephant and the Christmas gift wrap relay. Have fun with it!

7. The Décor

You will already have thrown around a bit of Christmas cheer in your home with your Christmas tree and/or decorations. Why don’t you add a string of fairy lights across the ceiling or around windows and doors? Add a bowl or tray full of sparkly baubles and a few festive candles on your table, this will be enough to create a festive atmosphere. Or call us and let us add some Christmas balloon trees, personalised foil balloons or even some little elves for the shelves!

8. Invitations

The best way to get all of your friends interested and excited about your party is by sending out invitations rather than just sending out a mass group text. Throw some creativity and thought into your invitations!

Creative Decorations can help you with all of your Christmas party needs, we offer the following to add that extra special touch to any festive event:

Balloon Christmas Tree-

These look fabulous and add that wow factor to any party.

Balloon Wreath-

Add a touch of something different to your event with these wreaths, or just a decoration for your home for you! Beautiful.

Santa and Elf Balloon Characters-

With star balloons! Put your own message on them to make them personal.

Chocolate Crackers-

Great for secret Santa gifts, table gifts or stocking fillers

Halloween fun with Creative Decorations

Halloween Fun with Creative Decorations

With Halloween quickly approaching you’re probably looking for a few scary party ideas that’ll really help things get spooky. Creative Decorations can help! Halloween is the perfect time to really let your creative juices flow. If you have already got your scary Halloween outfit organised, chosen the spooky nail art you’re going to have and picked out the recipes you’re going to bake for the big day, then there’s only one thing left to do; organise your Halloween Party! Here are a few good ideas for some scary activities you can plan for your upcoming Halloween party.

1.Grab the Ouija Board!

Back when you were younger, there’s a good chance that you were curious about the Ouija board, especially because your parents were usually against it! This is a fun party game that can easily get a little bit spooky, depending on the crowd you invite over (or the spirits that are hanging out in your house).

2. Crack open the scary story book

You don’t need to illuminate your face with a flashlight, but you can still make your stories spooky. A good place to look is on the internet. Most of them are fictional and some are so ghoulishly good that you’ll be up all night!

3.Make some spooky Halloween treats

There are so many recipes out there. Have a look on the internet for tips and keep it simple! Biscuit ghosts, grape eyeballs, blood punch and spider pop cakes are all fun and easy to make.

4.Grab your favourite scary movies

One of my favourite parts of Halloween are the scary films! With so many to pick from, why not have a scary movie marathon. Psycho, Halloween, Scream, Paranormal Activity and The Shining are some of my favourites to get your hearts racing!

5. Play Pandora’s Box

Fill four shoeboxes, one with something unpleasant (like ice, or sandpaper) one with something creepy (plastic spiders or vampire teeth), one with something gross (worms, or spaghetti) and one with something nice (perhaps feathers or marshmallows). Get your friends to dig in to each box and watch them squirm!

6. Adult Hide and Seek

This might be seen as another children’s game, but you know what? Hide and seek can get kind of creepy. Especially if you’ve got a lot of decent places in your home to hide. Make the house pitch dark and let someone try to find the rest of the gang.

7. Murder Mystery Evening

Grab a murder mystery game, there are loads available for you to play at home and available for all party sizes. Get everyone to dress up and your friends will be talking about your party for years to come.

Creative Decorations can supply the following for your party:

• Balloon Decorations

Make your house spooky with our balloon arches for selfies/front of house or mini witches!

• Sweets

Of any kind, in cones or cups! Give your guests a fright with our frightfully tasty sweet hands!

Halloween Balloons and sweets

Balloon Decorators – Why you need one

Balloon Decorators- Why You Need One

So, you’re planning a special event, maybe a wedding reception or a birthday party, and you want to incorporate balloons in some way. In this blog, we are going to let you know WHY you should hire a professional balloon decorator rather than doing it yourself or getting someone unqualified in to cut costs.

Hiring one of our professionals allows you to completely relax and enjoy every bit of the party, without feeling the pressure. With that said, you may still be having doubts as to whether you need to hire a specialist for your next party, so here are some more reasons to give us a try:

1.You will be too busy dealing with other things on party day

It’s impossible and stressful trying to be sociable with everyone at your party anyway, making sure all your guests are entertained and keeping an eye on the kids/animals/drunk friends to make sure they stay out of trouble, without the added stress of trying to organise balloon arches, and balloon walls! Creative Decorations will take all of that stress away, we’ve got you covered.

2. Disposable canisters never expel the full amount stated

True story! I get lots of last minute calls from people who use disposable canisters and quickly realise it’s not enough for the required number of balloons they need. I’ve also had panicked phone calls from mums and dads who have spent the whole night before their child’s party filling up heaps of balloons, only to find by the morning, the balloons are on the floor!
Hiring a professional means that the set up for parties/weddings/events will be done the night before and your balloons will still be floating by morning. Win!

3.You were just going to ask one of your friends or family to take care of the balloons

Firstly, they’re guests and are probably keen to have fun too. Secondly, are you sure that you want to risk having a potential disaster with the balloons just to save a few quid?

4. Buying cheap balloons online doesn’t always save you money

Especially if you have to end up doing it twice. Cheap foil balloons online don’t always float and small foil balloons are not suitable for helium so will also not float!
We used to offer a balloon filling service but do not anymore. Why? Because of the amount of bad quality balloons we were being asked to fill. Most were not suitable for helium and would never last the duration of an event.

Here’s a few points to remember when hiring us as your balloon decorator:

1. Creative Decorations are fully trained and insured
2. We do the job for you, allowing you more time to get ready for your event

3. Our balloons are QUALITY and will last the duration of your event and beyond!

Remember cheap is not always best

Until next time,
Helen

Balloon Releases

Balloon Releases – Don’t Let them go!

All of us at some point in our lives have let go of, or lost, a balloon. Who doesn’t enjoy watching a balloon float into the air? Its mesmerising. But recently balloon releases have become controversial. Why? Because balloons create litter and pose a risk to wildlife.

There are those balloon professionals like us and BAPIA who no longer support nor facilitate the deliberate release of balloons into the atmosphere. But there are those who believe that when conducted properly, and with the right materials, latex balloon releases are harmless to wildlife and the environment, but this is simply not true. So, we are here to give you a few facts and alternatives to balloon releases.

What’s Wrong with Balloon Releases?

It cannot be disputed that balloon releases cause litter – “What goes up, must come down!”
A recent report indicates that of those latex balloons that could be traced after a monitored balloon release, approximately 12% burst into small pieces, and 81% were recovered with half of the balloon mass intact. What happens next is not the traditional pop that you and I are used to seeing, but instead something simply called “shattering.” The helium balloon breaks in a manner that is similar to smashing a mirror, and all that is left are very small pieces of cold latex that sprinkle back down to earth.

How Can we Help Make your Balloon Release Friendly to Wildlife and the Environment?

If you decide to have a balloon release, consider these options:
• Use fully biodegradable balloons.
• Make sure balloons are air-filled.
• Hand-tie the balloons.
• Do not use plastic disks, attachments, or ribbon or string. Biodegradable cotton string and thin raffia ribbon can still get tangled up in trees and utility lines and harm wildlife.

Popular Balloon Release Alternatives That We Can Offer

1. Balloon Messages– Displaying Balloons at funerals/weddings with messages tied to the string for all to read is a lovely idea, and not harmful to the environment as they are not being released.
2. Personalised balloons– Add your own message or photos onto foil balloons to be place around the room.
3. Seed Balloons– Put your favourite flower seeds into a balloon and pop it over the area you would like them to grow.
4. Balloon Wall-We can build balloon walls that allow you to write different messages on them.
5. Prize Balloon Popping – Hide a few prizes inside air filled balloons. Release balloons indoors and let everyone pop them to find the prizes.

Not only is it super important to us that our environment and wildlife do not suffer from balloon waste caused by balloon releases, but there has been talk about banning balloons all together! This would mean no party balloons, wedding balloons or balloon modelling, and this would be such a shame. What’s a party without balloons!?

Please help us make a stand against balloon releases by talking to us about our alternative options. And help the environment by placing your latex balloons into your  bin once you have finished with them.

Until next time,
Helen
